So if I take a high ISO image and view the RAW and TIFF created in C1 and compare to photoshop. ![]() So to summarize the preview in C1 unless zoomed to 100% and even then with high ISO files there are some color mismatches does not match the Tiff files that are created when I edit with photoshop. I have it set to Adobe RGB when I edit with photoshop. The strange thing is that the Tiff file looks in C1 like it does in photoshop, which is less saturated. My problem is also that the preview in C1 of RAW files shows different colors depending on the level of zooming in and the only accurate judgement is at 100%. So it seems you can only edit photos at 100% for color accuracy otherwise you cannot properly judge the colors. So that when you edit the image and then click on edit in photoshop, you get a TIFF that is much less saturated then the preview in C1. I wanted to ask if anyone has also experienced the issue where RAW files when not viewed at 100% have different colors often over saturated. I tried a lot of other software on OS X, Linux, *nix, Windows and Andriod. The more saturated a color is, the more it is de-saturated and shifted in CO. The readout value is correct.įor anything beyond sRGB (color spaces larger than sRGB), remember that CO1 converts ALL Jpeg and tiff images to sRGB before displaying them in the CO1 viewer.īoth images in the screenshot are created in the same color space and with exactly the same color. Just adding a screenshot for my AdobeRGB example.Įdit: The image is tagged as 'adjusted' because I tried changing the profile and reverted manually without resetting. Is it me doing something wrong, or is it CO? Even when viewing the small sRGB image in AdobeRGB and vice versa. The funny thing is, that CO shows the correct color values when the image is too small for CO to be edited. Setting the proof profile to 'no profile' doesn't change the look of the colors. That's visible even without color readouts. The big editable one incorrectly shows sRGB (222,39,34,93). The small, uneditable one correctly shows sRGB (223,15,32,79). Step 3: start CO, create a clean new session, and view both images side-by-side in proof profile sRGB. Step 2: create the same sRGB image with 3000x3000px. Step 1: create a small tiff image with 300x300px and a saturated, solid red or yellow color like sRGB (223,15,32) in PS, AP or Gimp. ![]() I can easily reproduce it here, on 2 different MBP (2009 & 2014). ![]() Also, in virtually any professional setting. Most of these were extremely bad, but sometimes they were fine or just mostly bad.įor a brief period in 2002, people used Microsoft Excel to textĪnd then, in late 2016, Apple launched iMessage reactions. Sending pictures, sending videos, group texting, messaging apps, and direct messaging soon followed. Once people realized how awful it was to talk to someone on the phone if you didn’t absolutely have to, texting really took over. This meant you could text wherever you were! At first it cost approximately $1,000 per text, but soon it became as common as calling. Then, slowly but surely, cell phones started to become popular. This was mostly good, but you could only use this from a desktop computer, often requiring dial-up service (more BEEPs and BLORPs), which meant until your parents just paid for high-speed internet already you had a slow, semi-meaningless existence. You could also set statuses, which had to be either song lyrics or the initials of your 7th grade significant other. You could create cool screen names and tell people you were away, while you secretly chatted with only people you liked. People texted on their computers, using unique interfaces like “America Online Instant Messenger”. Best of all, you never had to talk to anyone on the phone! “You up?” texts were extremely rare in those days. This method of texting limited our ability to text, of course, but also very rarely resulted in unwanted communication. They used to hit a little button and BEEP BEEP BLORP like magic someone far away would receive your message. Did you know that our ancestors communicated by texting through something called a “telegraph”? Essentially, you went to a special place and told the people who worked there what you wanted to say, and to whom. Texting! It is so complex, and it seems to be getting more and more complicated every single day. Carolina mountain duskies in some areas may reach densities of over 2,500 salamanders per acre. Miscellaneous: These three species are among the most abundant salamanders in many areas within their range. Hatchling salamanders emerge from their eggs with external gills and spend up to 10 months as fully-aquatic larvae before transforming into adults. The female remains with her eggs until they hatch. Reproduction: Females of all three species deposit their eggs under moss, rocks, or logs or under logs in or near flowing water. Salamanders of these three species are active almost exclusively at night and may be found climbing on vegetation while foraging, often far from water. Some individuals may be encountered far from water, with salamanders at higher elevations tending to be more terrestrial than individuals at lower elevations.ĭiet: All three species of mountain dusky salamanders are generalist predators which feed on stream and forest floor invertebrates. The upper body varies from brown or reddish brown to gray or olive, with slightly darker markings on the top and sides. They have a keeled (knife-like) tail that is less than half the body length. Individuals of all three species may be found along streams, in seepage areas, and on wet rock faces. Ocoee salamanders are found in southwestern North Carolina and are separated from the Carolina mountain dusky salamander by the Pigeon River. Habitat/Range: These three species are very common in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. Some individuals may exhibit red legs or cheek patches similar to those of several distasteful species ( Plethodon jordani and Plethodon shermani). Other individuals may have spotting or flecking on the back instead of a dorsal stripe and others, especially males, may be dark with little or no patterning. This stripe can be irregular or straight. ![]() Some individuals may have a stripe down the back that can vary in color from yellow to orange, red, or brown. The traits in question were evaluated in populations of the larger D. Seepage salamanders lack an aquatic larval stage. The female will remain with the eggs until hatching. Reproduction: Seepage salamanders typically lay 11-14 eggs in moss or under cover objects near streams and seepages. Where present, this species is often locally abundant. ![]() The seepage salamander has a patchy distribution in deciduous forests of southwestern North Carolina. Seepage salamanders may also be present in moist areas under rocks, logs, and leaf litter in the vicinity of small streams. ![]() Habitat/Range: This species is named after the wet seepage areas in which it is commonly found. As in most Desmognathus, a light line is present from the eye to the back of the jaw. This species often has a light circular mark on the top of each thigh and a Y-shaped mark on the top of the head. The name is derived from Latin buttis – a “cask” via the Old French bot – “bottle”. Instead, the buttery was used for storing barrels or butts containing ales and wines. The pantry contained foodstuffs and derives its name from Old French paneterie – “bread”. The buttery, despite its title, has no connection with butter. The Enclosed Long HallĪ significant change in house building appeared around 1300 when the open hall design and layout began to enclose internal bays with walls or screens to create separate rooms, or “chambers”, each with a specific function. Typically bay one – the “lower end” – was subdivided into two store rooms – the “pantry” and the “buttery” – neither of which required heating. Kitchens in this period were typically housed in a separate building. Medieval halls were the essence of communal living being home to the owner, his family, his workforce, and house servants. The plan example shown above has five posts per side creating four internal bays. It derives from old French bae – “hole ” and the earlier Latin bado meaning “I am open.” You will see frequent reference to historic buildings being one, two, three, four, and even five bay.Ī bay in architectural terms is the space between each upright and defined as “the distance between two supports in a building with a pitched roof”. Roofs were thatched with straw or reed. Two entrance doors were set opposite each other and an open hearth fire was located centrally whilst avoiding a cross member to minimise the risk of setting the building alight. The gaps between were filled with additional supporting timbers and panels made from what was the most abundant local solution – wattle and daub, lath and plaster, compacted mud, clunch, or clay bats. ![]() Vertical timber posts were set at or into the ground at regular intervals, joined width-ways at the highest point by a cross member or “tie beam” and topped by the roof joists. Internally they were open from wall to wall and from floor to roof. In basic terms, long halls were three to four times longer than they were wide with a pitched roof. Our use of the word hall has somewhat grand connotations but in Old English pre-1150AD – a heall was simply “a roofed space” There is a caveat regarding Chiswick House in as much as it does contain a timber beam dated 1340 but this may have been taken from an earlier building and reused or, perhaps the inner core of the building is, in fact, Medieval. ![]() The remainder are predominantly 17th and 18th century. The two oldest half-timbered buildings in Meldreth are Chiswick House and The Green Man in North End – both early to mid-1500s and therefore considered to be Early Modern. Prior to the Norman invasion in 1066 the Anglo Saxons were building wooden-framed open long halls and it is reasonable to assume these were influenced by earlier Roman buildings. Wood was widely available, its cost was low and, compared to stone, it was relatively easy to transport and to use. Buildings have been constructed from wood from time immemorial. To better understand the historic buildings in Meldreth it is worthwhile considering what came before and how Medieval design traditions completely influenced house building in the Early Modern period. Kennedy took the oath of office, inaugurating the age of Camelot in the United States that would see the makings of the Cold War. On a frigid January day, swashbuckling Massachusetts native John F. Less than an hour after the speech's delivery, Congress approved for the United States to formally join the Allies in WWII.
